Saturday

Greetings from Nido del Aguila (Eagle’s Nest)!

Let me tell you about our day! It started with an amazing buffet breakfast in one of the restaurants in the motel. This buffet was filled with fruits and breads and Latino foods, and it was all so fancy and quite delicious. The second large room of the restaurant opened up to the pool area, so some of the team ate by the pool. It was so relaxing and elegant.
After breakfast we made sure we were all packed, and a few boys decided to enjoy the swimming pool again.
Then the bus arrived to collect our luggage, so we raced around getting it all delivered. Then after Bill and two boys (Daniel and Isaac) left on the bus to go greet our remaining team members at the airport, the rest of us lounged in the motel lobby.

Finally we got word that the bus was back. After a quick lunch at McDonalds, we left Guatemala City (at around 1 pm). We arrived at Eagle’s Nest after 3 pm, quite uneventfully. The road trip was amazing, with so many sights that are foreign to us. We just soaked it in, exclaiming over things and taking pictures quite often.
Finally we arrived at our destination and unloaded the bus. After quite a bit of hassle and talking and figuring, room assignments were made and folks settled in. Then it was time to report to the dining hall for the meal that was being served to us tonight. Each plate included some fried eggs covered in salsa, a slice of strong cheese, two pieces of fried plantains, and some black refried beans with a tortilla chip as decoration. There were some baskets on the table holding something, and I figured they were bread baskets. To my great delight, it turned out that the baskets held mini corn tortillas! These are the very food that I’ve dreamed about for the past two years since I first had them here. They were as good as I remembered.
The meal was delightful, and afterward we gathered for a quick together time discussing some ground rules and sharing highlights from the day.
Now we’ve all been dismissed to our rooms. Those who flew in today are exhausted, and will most-likely crash. The others of us aren’t quite ready to turn in, so we’re getting organized and chatting and having a nice time.
One of the ground rules was that we needed to take a break from “personal electronic devices”, so we will spend as little time as possible with iPods and the computer. Please don’t take it personally if your friend or relative doesn’t update their Facebook or write you an e-mail as often as you think they should. I’ll try to post daily updates so that you can enjoy our adventures and follow along.

Christie, Only You can make even the chinese dishes that were perhaps a bit odd/different,etc, sound delightful! The way you felt remembering the tortilla’s from before? That’s how I felt, looking forward to “Christie’s Commentary” once again. You’ve taken up just where you left off last visit/and with just as much descriptive detail. We love it. Keep it up as you are the window to that world. And I echo what was said before by a gal who commented before me. You prob. have no idea how your simple, instinctual comments are impacting those there around you for the kingdom. What great ambassadors you all are I”m sure. Take care, Julie
p.s. tell bill that next time we have sarah quilt him and his dad a special
“money-haulin blazer” w/ pockets inside evenly distributing the monies all over, hence just seeming to add a few pounds to their stature, rather than be obvious pockets full of money! Give our love to Spence..and tell him, please skip the bank runs..they sound too dangerous!

I am so glad your trip up to Eagles’ Nest was uneventful. We had road construction last time around. Enjoy the scenic views for us all!

Christie, I finally worked my way thru my pile at home and got around to making you a copy of that recipe you wanted. Since you’re gone I’ll send it later. Thanks for the great reports - story-telling is in your genes. Let the team know they’re on our hearts. God loves the orphan! Hope you all have a great Lord’s Day.

P.S. Julie if you’re reading these comments, that jacket idea is hilarious.

    Greetings!

I had a fun time telling Lydia about you all eating Chinese food in a country that speaks Spanish!

I sat with Michael and company this morning. That is always fun! I will be going over in the morning while Michael goes to work. I am sure that they will keep me straight about when, where and what needs to be done!

It looks like there is a tentative date of February 13, 2010 for Todd and Julie - the first anniversary of their first date.

Thanks for the updates - I almost feel like I am there.

    Love and prayers always,
    Nancy/Mom/Grammy

Sounds like things are going well so far. I will continue to pray for safety, fun, and good times with the 17 children that are in the home. Hey …..Miguel is spoken to by friends here in Indiana. So if you would give him some extra loving for Tony and Crystal. His adoption process is really in limbo. We had a great weekend with Larry and Claire. Yesterday we had around 100 for the reunion. Many folks the Boggs had not seen in many years. Just a real special day. We ended the day with pizza at our house , the Boggs and a few others came over. Then this morning Larry preached at a local church and then we treated them to lunch out. It was great to have alot of extra time with them. Well keep the posts coming. You truly are a gifted writer. Take care..
